Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could commend a good introduction to
strength training/intro to cardio DVD or book - for my 60 year old
mother, around 30lbs overweight, smoker, and a complete newbie to
exercise. I'm finding it difficult to find something which wouldn't be
too daunting. I had been looking at the weightwatcher series - but it
doesn't give too much indication of level, especially in respect to
how much the DVD concentrates on weights (which I think would be a
great help to her).

There's no chance of her going to a gym! But she has made a
committment to get healthier (unfortunately, this doesn't involve
giving up smoking!).

Thanks!

I have a book that I quite like called "Getting In Shape" - here it is on
Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0936070307/qid=1094126548/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/002-3461011-4196000?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

I also second the recommendation of www.stumptuous.com/weights.html, though
that might not be quite right for your mom.

Thanks, Carla. I'm familiar with Krista's website. Myself, I lift
weights and am quite a serious athlete - which is why my mum's asked
me for some health. But, of course, I'm no expert on other people!
I'll direct my mum to Krista's website and I'll check that book out
for her.

Thanks.

Do a search by keyword for 'weight training'. It will give you a list of
videos and useful information about it. Look for one with a beginners
level.
